83rd America’s Thanksgiving Parade


What would Thanksgiving would be without the magic and kid-like wonder of the annual Thanksgiving parade? The 83rd America’s Thanksgiving Parade® will kick off at 9:20a.m. on Woodward Avenue and Mack and end at Woodward Avenue and Congress in downtown Detroit. This year’s theme is “Together We Shine”. Catch all the fun front and center downtown or live at home, on Channel4 WDIV. The Parade Company is also holding a food drive to help the those in need. Tune in to see the colorful new floats and catch a visit from Santa. Non-perishable food items will be collected at the several Parade Company events and donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. AM 910 Radio Disney will entertain the crowd of onlookers with a sing-a-long and the Radio Disney D-Tour show.

Seldom Blues celebrates the spirit of Thanksgiving


Tis the season for sharing, giving back, and giving thanks: Seldom Blues has partnered with Mildred Gaddis of WCHB-AM in the spirit and true meaning of the holiday to offer 500 families in need of a scrumptious Thanksgiving Day Brunch. The brunch will be held from 11a.m. to 5:00p.m. on November 26th and is courtesy of Frank Taylor. Families will also enjoy live entertainment from jazz saxophonist Herbie Russ. The brunch will include:

27th Annual Fifth Third Turkey Trot

Gear up for a walk/run marathon with a party afterwards to celebrate! The Detroit Free Press and Flagstar Bank have teamed up once again to present their run/walk marathon on October 18th.
The international walk/run marathon will provide participants a scenic route through Windsor riverfronts and Detroit's historic neighbor hoods.
This marathon is also divided in a wave,according to pace and abilities and the start times for each is as follows:
7:13 AM- Disabilities Division
7:15 AM- Marathon, Half Marathon Run/Walk and Marathon Relay (First Wave)
7:33 AM- Marathon, Half Marathon Run/Walk and Marathon Relay (Last

Arts, Beats, & Eats Festival September 4-7

The annual Arts, Beats, & Eats Festival is back with plenty of great food, music, and art for all to enjoy! 50 restaurants, 200 performers, and 100 art exhibitors are pulling out all the stops for this year’s festival. Arts, Beats, and Eats is September 4-7 from 11 a.m. to 10p.m. Friday through Sunday and from 11a.m. to 8p.m. on Monday. This year’s festival will feature DPTV PBS Kids Club, The HealthPlus Art Fair, Soaring Eagle Giveaways and Getaways, ITC Greenways’ non-profit environmental exhibits, three Flagstar Bank Relaxation Stations, and more than 125 bands. Smooth Sailing Dinner Cruise

5th Annual Smooth Sailing Comedy Dinner Cruise
Kick back and relax to an evening of delicious food and comedic entertainment while sailing along the Detroit river. The Detroit Princess Boat is having its 5th Annual Smooth Sailing Comedy Dinner Cruise August 22, 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm. The cruise will include a buffet of of Prime Rib, Chicken Florentine, Teriyaki Grilled Salmon, Chipotle Apricot Glazed Pork Chops and Vegetarian Lasagna with sides of Potato Dauphinoise and other scrumptious sides.Assorted salads, dinner rolls ,and dessert will also be served. A cash bar will be avaiable for drinks. The comedic show will be hosted by fellow Detroiter and Star Search's 2003 comedy winner, Horace H.B Sanders.

Primary election results are in!

Despite a low voter turnout, the primary elections for Detroit City Council and mayor signaled major changes for the city, pushing out the old for the new. Mayor, Dave Bing captured a first place victory with 74% of the votes.His challenger Tom Barrow came in second with 11% of the votes. Former radio personality and Fox 2 News anchor, Charles Pugh also came as a great visitor in his race for city council. Pugh is among the leading 18 individuals that will run in November for the nine council city seats. Ken Cockrel Jr. came in second for the highest number of votes for council.
A total of 168 names appeared on City Council ballot but Tuesday elections narrowed downy 18 of those names (including Pugh the top finishers in the race. Although Monica Conyers appeared n the ballot she was not a valid candidate for council seat due to her recent bribery plea.
Incumbent, Maratha Reeves was not among the 18 names chosen by voters to run for City Council in November this will be her last term.Flat Rock, Dearborn, Hamtramck, Ecorse, Sterling Heights, and Northville Township also held elections Tuesday. Ribs 'n' Soul Festival

The Sterlingfest Art & Music Fair

The Sterlingfest Art & Music Fair is one of the largest city’s festival of the year and is
finally here! The festival is from July 30 to August 1 at the corner of Dodge Parks and Utica roads. The three day festival will include a juried arts and crafts fair, music, entertainment, Restaurant Row, nightly concerts, and food from several local eateries.

Thursday, July30- A traditional balloon launch will precede a performance by The Square Pegz of 80’s hits.

Friday, July 31- The Prolifics will perform to celebrate 50 years of Motown and the horn band, Funkinbluzin will open for them.

Saturday, August 1- Fleetwood Dream will perform, paying tribute to rock legends, Fleetwood Mac. Alyssa Simmons will be the leading act.

Do you know what today is? If not , then you might be interested to know that today marks Detroit's 308th birthday. Often times, Detroit has been talked about and seen in a negative light. But it's pretty impressive that even during all its hard times, the Motor City is still standing and thriving with a unique culture of its own. All you have to do is take a look around. If you step downtown you're immersed in city pride: the Joe Louis fist, the roar and excitement of the crowd that echos from a game at Comerica Park,the Red Wings jersey draped on the spirit of Detroit, and the glistening of the Detroit river water on a summer day. Or take a visit to the Motown Museum and you're sure to appreciate the place that made people like The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and the Jackson 5 a success.Detroit is not your typical city by any means.
