The Right Denim

Who doesn't love a great pair of jeans? I have not always been successful at picking the right jeans. The style was great but the fit never was. Or I pick the same boring style with no variation. No fun! As a lover of dresses, I neglected giving jeans  much thought but later on I learned that was a mistake. In recent years--yes recent--I am much better at knowing what does and does not work for me in a denim.  How about you? Think you have got it down pack already when it comes to jeans? Test out your expertise by checking out CBS Detroit for a helpful check list of things to look for! Stay tuned to MDP to view some of her favorite brands of jeans.

Fall Booties

Fall Booties

Booties are my latest obsession for this season and I can’t seem to love enough of them! I love the style and versatility a bootie provides. It also offers as little or as much coverage  you want (unlike a  regular boot). There are three types of booties I want in my closet, if I am being honest: I want one for dressing up (such as one made of lace or suede with satin or lace strings), a rugged-hip bootie for cold, slippery weather (think of a bootie with a lugged bottom or platform), and a simple leather bootie. Also, I  find booties that expose a lot of the foot to be not as beneficial to me. It can be very cold in Michigan at the drop of the hat and if it's still hot aside, it may be too hot for a boot style for my comfort. Nevertheless, I am still starting to love a peep-toe on a bootie. You can show off a bit of your pedicure but not risk being too cold. Anyway, I think a bootie is an essential item for transitioning between seasons. Style and function in one! You can’t beat that. To see what kind of booties caught my eye,  click on the pic above, courtesy of Polyvore, for more information on each style.

Carol's Daughter Saves the Day and Hair!

I am in love with Carol’s Daughter’s Hair Milk and Mimosa Hair Honey! Both are perfect for my hair's needs. There are several reasons why I appreciate these products that I am happy to share with ally of my followers. A few months ago I went through a major medical situation. (I am happy to report I am doing great now.) For this reason, my hair went through a little stress and I have been trying to be very cautious with it. Also, the summer weather can be brutal on hair, especially with the scorching temperatures in Michigan recently. (I feel like I’m in the middle of the Sahara but at least it’s not snowing!)

I have been wearing a flexi-rod set the last month or so because of this. The flexi rod set (similar to a straw set) is a natural style that requires an abundance of moisture. I’ve worn this style a millions times throughout the years.  No matter how much I love the freedom and break it gives my hair, I find it difficult to keep the curls moist without enduring the gross and oily residue that most products leave behind. My goal is to prevent brittle, dry hair yet avoid having to wipe away greasy products left in my hair. It’s a mess and a pain! That is where Carol’s Daughter’s Hair Milk comes in.

The Hair Milk provides the moisture my hair needs without enduring a very greasy or sticky excess left behind. Hair Milk comes in a spray bottle and squirts out very easily onto the hair. It’s very light and has just enough oil to leave a shine without over doing it. In addition, it has a fresh clean scent that I absolutely love. My hair is very coarse and doesn’t have a wavy or curly pattern to it. It has more like a cotton texture that can easily shrink when wet.

Therefore, I find when using the Hair Milk it’s best for me to spray it on my hair at night, leave it be for 30 minutes, re-curl any loose parts and then I can put on my silk bonnet. If I go to style it right away, I could loosen some curls in the process. For me, I find it best to let it sit first. I try to avoid being heavy-handed when using this product, unless I feel my hair is extremely dry. A little is all that I need to maintain moisture in it daily.

The Mimosa Honey is awesome for my scalp! I tend to get a very dry, flaky scalp which is not cute. The dry weather does not help this condition. The Mimosa Honey is a grease that you want to use just a bit of. I rub two dime-size scoops of the grease onto my hands and massage it into my scalp. I have to do this about 3 times to hit every part of my scalp. It can be hard getting to my roots because my hair is thick (which is awesome but difficult at times).  But this grease seems to help with moisturizing it and leaving it soft enough to get through without a struggle which is a major plus.

The subtle, sweet scent is fantastic because it does not leave my hair too fragrant. I find this important when you are using more than one hair product to maintain hair care. Overall, I am happy with my Carol’s Daughter’s products. The best part about their products is that they do not have harsh chemicals like alcohol in them. I'm grateful for this, especially since my plan is to get color later this year. I hope to post a picture of my hair soon for you to show how well it looks with the Hair Milk and Mimosa Honey grease. Also, my plan is to pick up the Hair Milk Pudding today. I think the pudding will allow me another element of moisture without the wetness of the spay. I think I will probably be able to style more with it which I am excited about. After this, I am for sure a fan of Carol’s Daughter for life!  For more information on all of Carol’s Daughter products, visit their official website here.

Our Lives Matters

I write this with a heavy heart and shock. I don't know if I wasn't full awake or just hoping for the best, but the recent shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile are completely devastating. My condolences to both families. Neither man had a weapon in his hand at the time of their deaths. It worries me that this is becoming typical and more frequent. More importantly, it bothers me that it's happening at all and color seems to be the evident reason. The level of injustice and carelessness for a human life truly  makes me sick and cry.  Humanity seems lost today in general. I'm no longer at an age to be so naive to it. However, I pray for things to get better and that if given the chance, I get to vote for some type of law that will save someone else from enduring this tragedy. Black lives matter. All lives matter. Life matters.

Father's Day Gifts

I would definitely consider myself a daddy's girl so of course I have to make sure I get him something he will love for Father's Day. It can be tricky sometimes (just like Mother's Day) to find unique and exciting gifts that he will love. I think any gift can offer some style in some type of way when extra thought is put into it. Luckily, there are plenty of local places that offer the perfect gift for dad that have plenty of style.  Check out CBS Detroit for some places I recommend for Father's Day gifts this year!

Th Met Gala 2016

THEME: Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology

Below are my favorites from the Met Gala 2016. I found these to be the most unique and wow-factors of the night. Most of all, I feel these ladies stayed true to the theme and the meaning of the night. I also love that  I did not feel overwhelmed with too many distractions from their looks. BeyoncĂ© wowed me because her Givenchy dress did not look like anything else on the carpet and it was still so classic. Taylor Swift was a stand out because she was rock and roll-perfection; she was the awesome mix of edge and high fashion without doing too much. Anyway, check out the rest of my favorites below!
