The Michigan Fashion Symposium 3/24 & 3/31
Detroit Fashion Collective is holding The Michigan Fashion Symposium, a two-weekend event on March 24 and 31. The purpose of the event is provide resources and network for the Michigan fashion industry with information.
Guests to the two-weekend event will find out how to get started, discover continuing education alternatives, how to structure a business plan from a creative and legal side, sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, and advertising.
When attending the event, guests should bring a resume if seeking an internship or a job in the
fashion design, modeling, hair, make-up, styling, branding, photography or manufacturing.
It’s the perfect place to learn , network, and gain key information on being successful in the Michigan network fashion industry.
All proceeds from the symposium will go to mentoring five aspiring fashion industry professionals in Detroit under the following categories:

Both events will take place at Detroit Fashion Collective’s headquarters, 2431 4th St. , Detroit, MI 48201. From 10a.m. to 12p.m. guests will learn how to create and structure their own successful business. Business Attorney, Don Walker and Designer/Business Consultant, Amy Dietrich will be among some of the speakers during the morning session.
The first event will take place at Saturday, March 24th. Between 1p.m. to 3p.m. guests will learn what buyers are looking for: what makes a fashion stylist select your design to be published,
how big retailers structure e-commerce to boost up sales, and choosing the correct medium based on your market.
Among the speakers to attend will be Fashion Designer and FID co-creator, Joe Faris, Hubert Sawyers from SORSAW Creative Agency, and Frances Harder from Fashion Business Incubator LA. To day will end with a mixer that will be held from 3p.m. to 4p.m.

From 1p.m. to 3p.m., guests will learn about the Michigan fashion industry which includes information on production resources, promotions, opportunities, and upcoming events.
David Rice from Organization of Black Designers. Adriana Pavon from Detroit Fashion Incubator, and Holy Mosher from Eastern Michigan University will be among the list of speakers during the session.
