There is so many reasons to celebrate women not just for Women's History Month but everyday. And in Detroit there are no shortage of thriving businesses owned by women. From the owners of Femology, Meagan Ward and Yliana Guzman to bakery owner of Sister Pie, Lisa Ludwinski, women are leading in several industries. Although many, below is a list of just a few of the girl bosses in Detroit that are making a mark in beauty and fashion.

Detroit native, Melissa Butler took the cosmetics world by storm with her cosmetics line, The Lip Bar. The line offers vegan and cruelty-free lipsticks and lip glosses in various colors. Butler started in 2012 and pitched the idea on the TV show, "Shark Tank" but has come such a long since then. Now, women can purchase her amazing lip colors, eye shadows, mascara, bronzer and more at local Target stores. The line has also been featured in Ebony, the talk show "The Real", Ebony and Essence magazines and more. Keep going Ms. Butler!

Nothing beats a great mani and pedi. But to enjoy it in absolute luxury and style in the heart of Detroit is truly an experience worth having! (I'm still waiting and planning to indulge in
this experience  this year.) The first The TEN Nail Bar shop was opened in 2016 by owners Kelli Coleman and Anika Jackson . The second location opened this past summer on Woodward Avenue. The salon also made headlines last summer when then Democratic-presidential-hopeful, Bernie Sanders and rapper, Cardi B. met up to talk politics. Taking care of business has a whole new meaning!

Detroit Blows is Detroit’s first non-toxic blow dry salon. Every dollar earned goes to the Detroit Grows Foundation which invests in women entrepreneurs. Women supporting women. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Michigan Fashion Week

Fashion week isn't just for New York and Paris. Thanks to creator, Loren Hicks, Michigan Fashion Week was born. Since 2012, Hicks made it possible for local fashionistas to enjoy and participate in fashion in a bigger way than it has before. Detroit Fashion Week set the tone, preceding Michigan Fashion Week years before. Michigan Fashion Week has  continued to carry on that torch.

Looking for something unique and one-of-a-kind? Then head to the Fisher building to visit The Peacock Room. Rachel Lutz opened the women’s clothing boutique and also owns two other women’s clothing stores, Frida and Yama. The spacious boutique features antique decor, wooden floors and chandeliers. It’s the perfect space to find vintage pieces and clothing. Thanks to Lutz a fashion lover can find many special items to stay in style.
