31st Detroit International Jazz Festival

Sit back and relax to the soothing sounds of smooth jazz music. The 31st Detroit International Festival will be held this Labor Day weekend, 9/3-9/6. Attendees can expect a plethora of jazz performances that include pianist Mulgrew Miller, trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard, saxophonist Branford Marsalis, Detroit Symphony Civic Jazz Orchestra, and Michigan State University Jazz Orchestra with Mulgrew Miller and Gary Smulyan.
The opening night to DJF will include a jazz/gospel vocal ensemble by the group, Take 6 with the Mulgrew Miller Trio. Roy Haynes is also among the artist s that will perform on 9/3. There will also be numerous Detroit bands and ensembles that are set to perform at the festival this year. Evening jam sessions will be held at the Detroit Marriott in the Renaissance Center at 11:00p.m. ,each night of the festival as well. The other events include a Jazz Tent with artists, writers and musicians , Kid Bop Tent with stories, songs, tap dancing, and other activities for children to enjoy, fireworks on 9/4 at 11p.m., and festival puppets.
